Counterfeiting Webinar

Wednesday February 17, 2010 12:00 PM

Please join us with Professor Patricia E. Campbell, from the University of Maryland School of Law, and Wayne B. Paugh, Esq. , former IP Czar in the Bush administration, as they examine intellectual property theft and the trademark and copyright laws that protect innovation by creating civil and criminal penalties for counterfeiting and piracy.

Counterfeiting and piracy cost the U.S. economy billions of dollars annually. Counterfeit products present serious legal and financial problems for manufacturers and distributors, who face potential liability claims if they incorporate counterfeit components into their products. Counterfeiting also presents serious public health and safety threats when defective or contraband products are introduced into the US stream of commerce. These issues are particularly relevant in the software and the entertainment industries, as pirated software frequently poses security risks to consumers and businesses, and the entertainment industry laments the crippling ramifications of the unauthorized distribution of music and videos.

This webinar will examine the trademark and copyright laws that protect innovation by creating civil and criminal penalties for counterfeiting and piracy. Learn how brand owners can protect their marks from unauthorized use on counterfeit goods, and how they can prevent fake products from entering the country. Additionally, learn how copyright owners can address unauthorized copying and illegal downloading. The program will also discuss other types of misappropriation of intellectual property, including theft of trade secrets and patent infringement.

The WEBINAR will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. To participate in this webinar, please register at https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/955830584.
